nancy drew strikes again
as with all the original text nancy drew books this is an interesting and fun read. in keeping with the natural of episodic books some are better or worse than others but they maintain a good standard. as to "staircase" specifically I like for its mood and atmosphere. viewed objectively, it is perhaps a bit slow moving, but it's noteworthy for nancy's father, carson drew, being involved somewhat more than just as nancy's bankroller and free lawyer. because of it's slow pacing it mightn't be the best first book for a very young reader, but for those who can appreciate its atmosphere it's very enjoyable.
as an aside, for those who may not know, nancy drew books 1-34 were originally written with 25 chapters and rather formal style of writing. in the fifties the books were shortened to 20 chapters with the text simplified and the originals were rewritten in the same way. though there were a few of the originals with the negative stereotypes of their day (30s-early 50s) the original are far superior and are far and away more recommended.
The Monster That Challenged The World - Masters of Horror CD - Horror DVD

old movies, still fun
1 of 1 found this helpful nice two movie set. the standout of the two is "monster that challenged the world". premise sounds silly, giant snails run amok, but is fun, engaging movie, with location filming at salton sea during its resort heyday in the fifties. wears very well.
the other, "it! from outer space" is more of a standard low budget fifties sf movie but it's certainly watchable.
the bonus, masters of horror cd, cannot comment about; it's of modern origin and am always leery of modern horror, it can be too horrible for me, so have not listened to it yet.
the picture quality of dvd is quite acceptable.

Feel bad experience from began
This is a nasty, upleasent account about about a lot of nasty, unpleasant people being nasty and unpleasant. Even allowing for a degree of exaggeration reading this book makes one feel as though one just stepped in something very disgusting. Some funny bits, yes, and interesting descriptions of the area but has naught else to recommend it. Didn't even finish it. Liked Douglas's "Shut up and Eat Your Snowshoes" but not this. Don't bother with this
