Excellent for hand strengthening exercises
Excellent for post-hand surgery rehab and general hand strengthening exercises. My physical therapist gave me a softer version for starters to slowly work up to firm.

Excellent massage therapy and stress relief
Excellent massage therapy for hands and feet. Started using it years ago for physical therapy after hand surgery. Easy to carry around and use in idle moments. Has added benefit of acting like worry beads to relieve stress. New, the ball is quite hard, but the blunted nubbins provide stimulating massage, and the user simply adjusts the rubbing pressure to suit. Depending on how often and hard you use it, the ball will soften over time, and the nubbins will begin to break off. I use mine frequently and agressively, so it lasts about six months.
