On Killing -- an honest study of war.
1 of 1 found this helpful I had borrowed and read "On Killing" before buying, but it is such a book that owning it yourself is almost manditory. The author uses numerous studies from the military and other sources to challenge the culture's conceptions on war and its effects on those it touches. Being a martial artist personally, this is a wonderful reference guide to me and I have advised all of my friends to purchase copies themselves.

Great reference book
Dispite the cover having tae kwon-do stylists on it, it is a great reference book for a student of karate. It covers almost a complete rundown of karate moves, strikes, blocks, counters. I find it a good refresher on the japanese names of moves as well.

Good for what it is.
Good book for what it is. A better title would have been Advanced Shotokan Kata, since nearly the entire book is devoted to nothing else. It explains the variations that might be encountered and the history behind each of the more advanced kata. Not a book for those looking for techniques.
