An exhausting, exhilirating book.
This vast, multi-tiered historical novel not only covers it's period with exhaustive detail, it connects the intellectual and scientific currents of the time with the modern age. I am continuously amazed and exhausted by the wealth of detail that Neal Stephenson is able to pack in the most routine incidents that occur to the characters in the book. This book cannot be described as a page turner because the reader will be continuing to read and re-read pages and passages over and over to savor the essence of the writing. And that is the highest praise that I can give to any book.

Tim Ferriss on food.
In the world of restaurant chefs, the "Larousse Gastronomique" is the comprehensive encyclopedia of French cuisine. It is certified by the "Academy," a semi official organization recognized by the French government. The Four Hour Chef is like that. Except that is not French, but the product of an obsessed American autodidact, mostly on his own, with the help of friendly chefs, cooks, and restaurant owners. Extremely entertaining and informative book.
