The Garmin 255W, I like her.
10 of 17 found this helpful I purchased the Garmin for a vacation on the island of Kauai. I have used maps for years and was always able to get where I was going but with airports, car rentals, condo, and such I took the leap into the 21st century. I tried it out before the trip to find a shopping mall 70 miles from home for my wife, and it was almost flawless. Never having used a GPS before I was surprised by the cartoon like display but it serves the purpose. I like seeing the route start to finish and the 255W doesn't give that option. It finds it's location and then starts giving directions toward the destination. Being a guy this is a bit hard to swallow ar first, a colorful little box with a female voice telling you where to turn. I tried one more test by going on roads I had never driven before then using the GPS to find my way back. Again flawless. The 255W gives you the name of the street or freeway exit, the distance to the next turn, which lane to be in to make the turn, and repeats as you get closer.
My wife didn't like it when (Bossie),as she named her, kept cutting into her conversations with me just to give me directions. Then (she) as I called the Garmin would do it again 10 seconds later. It didn't help that when I wasn't using it and my wife told me 5 seconds before I was suppose to turn right, I was in the left lane with a huge pickup beside me, that I seemed annoyed with her. A small disagreement followed. The 255 just calmly says recalculating, no argument, no right or wrong, just lets try that again. I like her and lets face it if you're anything like me it doesn't hurt to hear it twice just to be sure.
