An underrated system
2 of 2 found this helpful Lifelong user of Sony's Playstation series and Nintendo's Gameboy series (Gameboy-DS-3DS). Bought the system as a birthday gift for my mother whose Wii had stopped working and have used the system whilst she was on vacation.
As I have only used the Dualshock series of controllers I couldn't see how the large, unwieldly gamepad could be usable for any length of time and remain comfortable. I was surprised however as the gamepad is balanced beautifully, the spacing of the buttons is perfect and the back of the pad is ergonomic in design with the curves of the underside grips staying comfortable even in extended (8+ hour) game sessions.
The touchscreen on the Gamepad is responsive and accurate and when playing games directly from the gamepad the graphics remain sharp and the controls remain responsive (there is no input lag).
The graphics aren't as good as the current-gen software but the Wii U isn't about photorealistic graphics, it's a fun system with games that hold to Nintendo's high quality. My only concernis the small internal storage size and whilst 32gb seems a lot most digital games will use upto 10gb for a full install (games played from the disc require minimal storage space however). Digital game filesize means anyone wishing to make good use of Nintendo's eShop will require an external HDD (and one with it's own ac adapter). Additionally the gamepad recharges via the AC adapter which means in addition to the external HDD you will need 3 plug sockets free to use the system optimally.
I will however state that this past fortnight with the system has convinced me that I need a Wii U of my own and it will sit proudly alongside my PS4.
