Lauryn Hill on Her Own & On Fire!
1 of 1 found this helpful The key. It's the flow, the flavor and the personality of the album. This album is hip hop with a real soul with Strong and Dynamic words AND beats.
Her voice. Textured and smooth all at once, you can lend her your ear, without reservations.
Her words. The fact that she chooses to say something of substance versus anything to sell a record makes this album the kind that all types of music lovers will value for a long time. Plus, you don't have to shut it off when somebody you respect enters the room, its clean and still powerful.
Comparison. I wish there was more in this vien of music. And while this album (which is polished, well executed, hip-hop, but still honest) is completely different from her MTV unplugged album (which was raw, folksy, soulful, undone but honestly beautiful), they are both powerful bodies of work that get my praise!
Favorite tracks: Ex-Factor, When It Hurt So Bad, and I Used to Love Him. Perfect break up songs, put the album in, feel strong, be free and go on. Plus the two hidden tracks will leave you with hope that it can and will be better the next time around.
Great to play with... the Sun-roof back, windows down, shades on, and the tank full of gas. These are the rhythms that usher me into the a great vacation or at least a perfect moment of freedom.
This is still a classic, Enjoy!--MsJTRAVEL

R&B's introduction to JAZZ, & still true to the genre
It' s young R&B with an old jazz soul.
I have had this CD for three (3) years. This is her first album and with vocalist and songwriters like Lizz Wright music becomes transitive and more of a challenge to classify, so you need to experience her.
Rich vocals like Anita Baker.
Seductive rhythmic tones like Sade.
It's a smooth introduction into jazz if you are curious. A great addition to your collection if you enjoy R&B ballads or female jazz vocalists.
My favorite tracks: Vocalize/The End of the Line, Eternity, Goodbye, Fire, Blue Rose and most of the cd.
This album has personality and soul, enjoy finding yourself in her music. Subjects of relationship, self discovery, separation and the bitter and sweetness of the transitions. ("I'll never forget you,... Goodbye...Let's say farewell with a sigh and let love die") what a beautiful song. Lizz Wright is classic and powerful in this album. She has another album released in 2005 called Dreaming Wide Awake. My suggestion is buy Salt first, fall in love with it and them come back for Dreaming...
Great to play...on a rainy day and just stay in, it will make rain at the beach acceptable--at least for one day. Enjoy...

I Feel a Vacation Coming On!!! Way to Go Queen
1 of 1 found this helpful I saw this movie after returning home from a week long vacation with my sisters. It was the last thing we did before we went back to work. Last Holiday made me want to book another ticket and hit the airways within 24 days. Without being too cheesy, it reminds you to live your best life now!
There is something soft and sweet about this funny little movie.
Queen Latifah's character is diagnosed with three (3) weeks to live, so she starts LIVING all her dreams without delay. There is no retirement to save for & no reason to be conservative any more. Oh, and she has a crush on LL Cool J's character (always a plus in my book).
My personal message from Last Holiday...TRAVEL MORE! Don't allow high school or college to be the best years of your life AND don't wait until you are seventy (70+) to see the World, get started now. --MsJTRAVEL 20OCT06
