KEF LSX Wireless Active Speakers - Black
    Apr 13, 2021
    perfect for a smaller space
the sound that kef produces is unparalleled. these are small, and you can't expect too much, but they will fill a bedroom, or office, with incredibly detailed sound. the bass is more than responsive, but if you really want a deeper boom you can add a sub (which they make for approximately the same price as the two here lol). look, they aren't going to power a large living room appropriately, but then again they weren't made for that ... but for my classroom, my bedroom? incredible
Onkyo DP-X1(B) High Res Audio Player with Built-in DAC Headphone Amplifier Black

Onkyo gets its entrance to the DAP world mostly right ...
Understand that mentally I am comparing this to the other daps i have owned ... the cowon plenue 1 and the sony nw zx2. The one you will find the best will depend upon various quirks of the intrument as opposed to overall sound quality. The Onkyo definitely sounds GREAT. The twin dac isolation makes for excellent sound. One of the few quirks that isn't a plus, as far as the Onkyo goes, is that you cannot (at least I haven't figured out how) delete albums from the device itself, but must be plugged into your desktop. That is annoying. While all three have proprietary "gadgets" that tweak the sound, it is really just a matter of taste. I will say that the Sony is the worst of the three in this. The Cowon has the most tweaks available, but the Onkyo holds its own. it upscales to 192 kHz ... it has a DSP function ... a digital filter ... and an eleven band eq which can be manipulated so many ways as to get a little frustrating (you must have a steady hand because you can go up/down AND side to side in the manipulations). But make no mistake: it sounds as good as any device I have used. Whether listening to the "balanced" out thru headphones, or through the bluetooth connection to my car stereo, my music sounds rich, warm, excellent. One bonus that cannot be overlooked (if you like as much music as you can "take with you") is the DOUBLE micro sd card slot ... I have two 256g cards in there, which equals 476 gigs of music. It seems to show artwork if it is attached to the folder, something the Sony doesn't do so well either, though the Cowon does a great job of that. The main drawback of the Cowon is that it isn't bluetooth capable. too bad. Anyway, I realize you came here looking for info on the Onkyo, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it ... oh, and depending on where you shop, you can get it two to four hundred dollars cheaper than either of the other two!
