ATD Tools Wheel Hub Removal Tool - ATD-8629

Won't work on Subaru Outback wheel bearing assembly
For me the ATD tool was an expensive let down. I tried to remove the rear wheel bearing assembly on a 2015 Subaru Outback utilizing the ATD tool without any success. The instructions on the box said to strike the ATD tool with a five pound hammer. Well, the five pound hammer didn't do a thing. So I moved up to a ten pound sledge hammer and even that wouldn’t make the wheel bearing assembly budge. The ATD tool is strong and well made. It will likely work on other vehicles. Its failure to remove the bearing assembly on my vehicle was likely due to Subaru's design of the Outback's wheel bearing assembly more than to the tool itself. The bearing assembly sits to deeply inside the axle housing and with a little rust it becomes a nightmare to remove. The ATD tool does not come with nuts that fit the Outback's wheel studs (M12-1.25). Those had to be purchased separately, as well as thick washers to span the elongated mounting holes of the tool. Without washers, the nuts won't remain tight.
