Keyboard doesn't connect, so it can't be used as a laptop

The screen doesn't seem to make the necessary connection to the keyboard of the Nextbook Flexx I ordered. That means I can't use the keyboard for writing, can't use the touch pad, and can't attach a mouse or thumb drive to the USB slots. I don't know whether this is a general problem with Nextbook Flexxes or whether this one was somehow damaged in transit. All I know is that it's valueless to me.
