Marvelously entertaining and informative.
Historically accurate, fast paced, brilliantly written and hysterically funny part of the 12 volume 'Flashman Papers' by the late great writer George MacDonald Fraser.

Terrific prequel to "Treasure Island".
This is a very well written, exciting prequel to "Treasure Island". I enjoyed it very much. There are a few others prequels, sequels out there but this is far and away the best, as is its sequel "Return To Treasure Island" which tells of Silver's post T.I. adventures. The others I've read are rather lousy, especially
"Long John Silver: The True and Eventful History of My Life of Liberty and Adventure As a Gentleman of Fortune & Enemy to Mankind Hardcover – September 1, 1999
by Bjorn Larsson". That got a lot of critical acclaim, but I found it to be nasty, brutal and not very involving. Not only is it badly written and nihilistic, but I'd venture to say that the author read Mr. Judd's books and "riffed' off them. Disliked that book intensely but I heartily recommend both of Denis Judd's books.
