The Most Well-Rounded Overall Best Console
2 of 4 found this helpful The PS2 has a lot of value for a nearly 20 year old platform. It can play PS1 games, CDs, and DVDs. It's compatible with almost every PS1 accessory which includes the controllers, but the Dualshock 2 can be used for all games anyway. It looks great on an HDTV if you connect with Component or RGB cables, but in most cases the standard A/V output should look decent, just might be letterboxed depending on the game. There is an option to output optical audio through a soundbar or home theater system, which is something overlooked --especially for an old console --but it makes a big difference and sounds great when playing compatible games. The Dualshock 2 is mostly the same in design as the first, but it is has pressure-sensitive buttons which feels very natural -- even better than the Dualshock 3. The game library has the most variety compared to that of any other platform before or after the PS2 , and definitely seems to have the most games period. Since the game library is massive, there's a lot of worthless, awful titles but if you owned every good game you would be busy playing and replaying them for years. I would say there's about a dozen high quality games for every genre and, in my opinion, the golden age of horror games reigned during the PS2 era. Wether you are revisiting early 2000s nostalgia or never experienced it I would highly recommend checking it out. Thanks for reading!
