Looks like a mass air flow sensor, works like a door handle.
It is a functional "Door Handle Inside Interior Driver Side Left LH for Explorer Mountaineer". Looks and works as it was designed. They initially shipped a mass air flow sensor for a BMW, but I contacted them and they shipped the correct part out right away.
