Happy Camper - A big increase in comfort for a small increase in bulk.
This is not the lightest or most compact 2-person tent you can buy in this price range ( which is why 4-stars instead of 5), but I opted for this tent’s slightly more bulk in exchange for a lot more space and convenience (compared to the grand Mesa 2). The two doors and the third pole are great. The third pole really opens up the internal volume, making this a lot more comfortable inside. The two doors allow entry/exit without climbing over your partner, and the dual vestibules allow space to store two packs out of the elements.
Mine seemed waterproof out of the box, but I also added an extra layer of polyeurethane waterproofing and seam sealer to the body floor and fly as extra insurance. I also found that it is possible to pitch the poles and fly on the footprint, then unroll and pitch the body beneath the fly if needed. This provides a way to pitch this tent in the rain, if needed, without getting the interior of the body soaked.
So far, I am happy with this tent as my first short-trip backpacking tent.

Better than the Arnold brand adapter
I had to replace this adapter due to my blade striking some tree roots. The original adapter cracked down the side, but was still intact enough to operate. I wanted to replace it though, because it did not look safe. I first bought a cheaper adapter by "Arnold", which claimed to be an original MTD adapter. When I received the Arnold one, it did not say MTD on the bag, the casting was smoother and more shiny than the original, and the casting was marked with the letters "PS". When I installed that one, it only lasted 30 minutes, and without any blade strikes, it split into three. I ordered this one as a replacement. It was about $4.00 more, but appeared to be an actual MTD part. Its appearance was more similar to the original one. I have now mowed the lawn twice and it is still working. I think this is a much better piece than the Arnold brand. It is definitely worth the extra $4.00.
