Faulty coolant temp sensor

Sensor was faulty, made my thermo fans run straight away, gauge was all over the place up and down hot and cold, then while driving it went to over hot and "hot" warning flashed on my dash, had the car towed on a tilt tray to the mechanic who couldn't find any evidence of it over heating and the sensor behaved like normal, then again I was driving home and the "hot" warning again so of course in fear of damaging my motor another ride on the tilt tray and off to another mechanic who discovered that the coolant temp sensor was faulty, so $786 of towing and mechanics and being disabled means I need my car as I live a long way out of town, now I have to send the sensor back, then it gets sent off to be tested, then if found to be faulty then finally a new one gets sent to me. Unfortunately I NEED MY CAR and can't afford to have it off the road all this time over a stupid $28 part that's already cost me nearly $800. So I've written it down as a big mistake and got a friend to pick up a new sensor from the AutoPro in town so I can be mobile again. Won't be buying parts again, I'll keep my money local from now on.
