Only wanted for the parts
I really bought these as the basis for a conversion that I had in mind and removed the superstructure, funnel and lifeboat, leaving the hull behind. Unfortunately as far as being a close replica of a steam tug they are poor. However, their hull is great and that was what I was after. I did struggle a bit to remove the superstructure but once it was off I had the bit i needed and the lifeboats and funnel will be re-used in my conversion. They are put together quite well and are really quite sturdy models. They do make nice additions to any harbour scene though, it is just a pity that the overall look of them is awkward. They are also fun to repaint and of course to weather too, and of course coupled to a row of barges they do help make for a "busy" look. But, I do feel the Triang diesel tug is a much better tug from an aesthetics point of view, but I am really a steam tug enthusiast and have 6 of them in my harbour, with 2 being converted into a more realistic version. You can never have enough tugs in a layout because they do add to the atmosphere.
