VuPoint Magic Wand PDS-ST415-VP Handheld Scanner

Great design and value

I was initially skeptical about handheld scanners but bought this one after reading multiple favorable independent reviews. I am very pleased with its convenience, performance, resolution, and value for money. It does require a steady hand, but it compares favorably with low-priced sheet feeder scanners for which some reviews report that the rollers don't always feed the paper smoothly. To my delight, I have not had any problems with distorted images; if my hand is sometimes unsteady, my experience has been that the result is that the copy is merely a bit tilted.

Outstanding audiophile tube

This is currently my favorite tube in my 12AU7-based headphone amp, paired with JBL Tim McGraw headphones. It exemplifies "truth in timbre" and is very clean, sweet (but not artificially so), and neutral. Inner voices and hall acoustics are easy to hear. I prefer it to an Eico/Mullard 12AU7, Sylvania 5814A, RCA 5963, and of course the stock modern 12AU7 that came with the amp. Was impressed enough to buy another as a spare, and am not expecting to continue searching for anything better. Highly recommended.

FiiO USB Digital Audio Converter Headphone Amplifier Black Built-in 3dB Bass

It just does everything well

For a quite modest price, this little gem sounds WAAAY better than the computer's built-in sound card, and far better also than lesser outboard DACs. Its headphone output also sounds much better than the headphone output on my powered speaker setup, and has enough power to give plenty of volume on all headphones and earbuds that I have tried with it. It is super-simple to set up, requiring no auxiliary power supply, no adapters, no downloads (at least on mine, though I have read something about possible downloads), and no other fiddly details to fuss with. It can run headphones and powered speakers (through the line output) at the same time, so no need to plug and unplug headphones when swapping back and forth between headphones and speakers. It also has a nice switchable bass boost that affects the headphone output only. It is very compact and takes up hardly any space. Note: the "Tell Us More" section required an answer to the question about battery life, which is not applicable here because it doesn't use batteries - it draws its power from the USB connection instead.
