Voodoo Punk
Tim Powers, one of the so called inventors of Steam Punk genre, has an amazing knack for combining real history with fantasy and magic. This long out of print book (now available again) is an amazing read for pirate lovers or fantasy lovers.
This book is also the inspiration (NOT "based on", they changed too much) of the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie: On Stranger Tides.

Great soundtrack to a great movie, (especially the newer Director's Cut). Dark and noir. Note: Anita Kelsey actually sings the songs; Jennifer Connolly only lip sinks in the film.
