Great solution against sun glare. I have this on my Leupold VX-3i 4-14x56mm scope and now I have one less problem while long range shooting!
Being able to shoot accurately over a thousand yards requires a great rifle and a really really good scope.
I bought a Leupold VX-3i 4.5-14x56mm Illuminated Duplex scope not to long ago to be used with my 338 Lapua rifle.
It is an excellent set up but I live in Texas. This means hot weather and a very bright picture while aiming down the scope. Leupold does a great job at reducing the exposure and glare through the sight but there's only so much you can do.
Usually the very light glare I see doesn't really bother me. It's when I'm sweating and there's a wicked heat mirage between me and the target that I wish I didn't have so many small things to annoy me. One of those is glare. Especially when the scope at at a high magnificatuon as its noticeably larger when it's zoomed in. This would be worse if I had a FFP(First Focal Plane) scope.
It took me 15 seconds to screw this in and man does it help. Haven't taken it out to the ranch yet but just looking through the scope I can tell that the sun won't be hampering me with its glare anymore, regardless of its position in the sky. Also the added 3" don't show up though the scope regardless of magnification so that's a big plus.
It does make the scope longer so that could be taken as a pro or a con. Personally, I think it makes the scope look cooler. I never Mount anything but the Leupold on the top rail anyways. Obviously I bought this for its practicality but it's not a bad price just for the looks. The shade feels sturdy and matches the matte and color perfectly.
Very happy purchase!
