Simple & robust coffee bean grinder
After reading reviews on cheap grinders that wear out quickly, I opted for this high-end product that is imported from Europe. This unit is both simple to use and generally ergonometric. The base is weighted and tilted such that it is easy to grasp and turn--definitely engineered for a right-handed individual, but probably be OK with lefties as they must also live in the same world. Both the stator & rotor pieces are ceramic and disassemble easily for cleaning--I used a toothbrush to clean the grooves in the rotor burr. My first attempt at adjusting the texture worked--I screwed the locking nut on fully and backed it off ½ turn--nut does not loosen by itself. I've been through 2½ lb of coffee beans now with no signs of deterioration. Now for the negatives: the self-stick rubber feet do not stay in place, but continually 'walk' as the unit is cranked--definitely need a better adhesive or perhaps larger feet. The cranking force required was acceptable except for some very tough Mexican beans that my wife could not manage--took some serious strength, but the grinder seemed to take it OK. Also the knob is not ergonomically shaped and tends to hurt my hand--this could be improved and /or made larger. RECOMMENDED! I predict that this will become a popular item.
