High end right out of the box, a huge upside with minor mods, + great value
Very fast and powerful processor. I wanted speed and lots of threads, and I got it, along with a good graphics board. Be sure to run an "overclocking" application on it. Using the Intel utility with a DX58SO2 board I got an easy 8-10% speed increase while staying within specifications, meaning no temperature increase. I only briefly tested the "extremely aggressive" settings and got more than 20% speed increase with survivable temperatures but I chickened out on letting stay that hot forthe long term. This is all without a high end CPU cooler, or water cooling, but not the stock Intel heatsink and fan. I did learn a lesson about checking the thermal conductivity of the heat transfer grease. They all say they are the "best" but if one has a thermal conductivity of 1.5, and another has a 5, it makes you wonder what they think the word best means. (watch that you are comparing the same thing, e.g.thermal conductivity or resistivity and the same units of measure usually watts/(meter *degree Kelvin); using those units a thermal conductivity of 5-8 is good, 1 is not as good.) Stability is very good. During the autotune I almost never hit any instability, and when I did it recovered quickly. I have it running full out on several of the Boinc distributed calculations and it is always rock steady, and ready for more. It makes me wonder why Intel moved to adding graphics onto their next generation? I have one of those in the basement building a machine. I will see how well it does compared to a 990X and a separate graphics board. The new CPU's are bringing the price down on the 990X, so if you're buying a 990X that's a good thing. Be warned, you can overheat this puppy if you overclock and overload it. Make sure you have some hardware temperature monitoring and don't scrimp on the case fans and the CPU cooler. I'm writing this as if everyone was building thier own and can tweak this and that, but most people aren't that insame. So if you are buying a packaged system and want great performance, you will get it right out of the box. If you want to push towards outstanding performance then get them to install a good $80-$90 CPU cooler. If you want insane performance then go to water cooling, lots of case fans, etc. But no matter what you're after you won't be disappointed.

Reliable, great value and excellent performance. This is the way to go.
You can't beat this drive unless you move into the all solid state mode. It has excellent response due to it's speed, a very large buffer, and the SATA III interface. The prices on "mechanical"drives are falling again now that Japan is getting back up to speed after the terrible tsunami damage and the glitz of everyone wanting a solid state drive. Western Digital is known for a reliable product that lasts a long time. I actually can't comment on their customer service because I have never had to use it. That says something about thieir quality!! The falling new prices and every once in a while you get a real steal in an Ebay auction make this the way to go.

Good value for the power you get, especially with overclocking.
Very good value for a solid processor. It's price is coming down, yet it can handle most every need unless you are really pushing the envelope. It does have a good overclocking performance, but it will tend to go unstable a few times while you are tuning up the machine. Don't let that get to you, just move to the next set of settings and keep going.
