Selling Sickness
I have always known that "Big Pharma", the drug companies, etc., are out for a profit. Just recognize the difference in prices between the USA and other countries. I have also known that, because they sponsor most of the clinical trials, the results seem to be somewhat biased in their favor. What I did NOT know, until I read this book, was the extent to whch the companies go to INVENT medical situations - to ENTICE the consumer to indulge in unnecessary medical interventions, and then to CAPITALIZE on these very situations they have created. It almost makes one believe in regulation ! Now I know why I don't watch ANY commercials - as the drug companies create and air most of them - ! ! YES, medical treatment is VERY valuable in many situations. YES it is irreplacable in its impact on illness. and it is also OVER-KILL when illnesses are invented to sell drugs, when illnesses are inflated as to importance, thereby selling druga, and when illnesses are over-medicated by doctors who are partial to varies treatments dealing with medications. This book opens ones eyes to the impact "Big Pharma" has on our lives, and to the detriment that our lives suffer because of it. A MUST READ for any thinking person - Karla Kay

Fantastic "Read"! !
This book was recommended to me by a friend who is intrigued with, almost addicted to, the idea of living long enough so that medical science will be able to make one immortal. This is the book that says that it will only take another twenty years for that to be so, and makes the reader believe it ! The authors themselves are totally involved with this concept - or they obviously wouldn't have written the book - and they have made it seem possible. For the first time, due to their explanations, I have been able to comprehend what the whole field of genetics/genomics/stem cell research is about, and what the implications studies in these fields will have on the lives of even the commonest of men. Their treatment of diet, and the implications that food have upon our bodies and our lives is written so that anyone with an interest in this field will have no trouble understanding the content, They consider such subjects as water, carbohydrates, fats, sugar and insulin, the power of the mind, stress, exercise, hormones, the REAL causs of cancer, heart disease, etc., and the personal programs they themselves follow in their pursuit of immortality. I highly recommend that anyone reading this will want to read it at least twice, once for the overview, and then again, more slowly, underlining, taking notes, to see what they REALLY said!

Beneath a Silent Moon
Having read Ms. Grant's books out of order ( I read Daughter of the Game before this one), I wanted to read the first one in the series, so purchased Beneath a Silent Moon. I am disappointed in the writing style of this novel. Her second one, (Daughter...),displays MUCH better, tighter technique. The story line in Ms. Tracy's novels is better than most romantic fiction, but I couldn't get much past the first 30 pages of this one.
