Compact design.No scart socket
Compact design. Good quality picture and stereo sound. Quiet motor. Auto power-save. Very discrete power-on-green-light. No scart socket, but connected fine to my Samsung TV through HDMI cable (not supplied).

Compellingly evocative of life in early 20th century North London
What an excellent booklet from Islington Libraries. Out of print but I was pleased with the good condition of the copy obtained from Pendleburys (The Bookshop in the Hills).
My grandmother was a child and then a mother herself during the period covered by this autobiography. My mother was born in the year that the booklet ends and both lived in the area covered. It was a delight to hear more about the area and the lives that they and those around them lived. Memories were evoked of stories I was told and new facts and opinions illuminated my understanding of their lives.
Despite it being a booklet of only 36 pages, the author manages to convey a warm picture of herself and those around her, together with an idea of the other senses which were touched in the day: the smells of the rotting vegetables and fruit which were all the poorer residents of the area could afford to buy from the greengrocer, the unfamiliar and disliked taste of curry, the feel of the loved, lumpy porridge, the sounds of the old war songs, laughing and talking and the scary sound of the Zeppelin passing overhead.
For a child, the author clearly had a strong empathy with the feelings of others, including her hard working mother. By modern standards, she seems to accept behaviour of adults which we would find cruel today, such as the sending of her and her brother away to orphanages for periods of time when their mother could not afford the time, nor money to look after them. However, it was very interesting to read how they could be taken back home for short stays when times improved.
Overall a great, compelling read which I would recommend to anyone, particularly those with connections to the area or era.

Great value offer for a quality product.
Without its original box (as was clearly explained), this remote works perfectly with our portable TV.
