Replacement unit that seems to fix the fault
The unit replaced an intermittently working one in my car. It is the same manufacturer as the one that has developed the fault. When testing by swapping the power connector the new unit worked when the original one was jammed solid.

Dell d6000 hub
2 of 3 found this helpful I had a requirement for multiple screens to be attached to my pc, although the illustrations seemed to mainly concentrate on the gaming aspects of such a unit, my requirement was of a more serious nature. I had both a new MacBook Pro M1 and an older PC that I could use for specific applications. The MacBook to be used in Qlab for multiple screens, which there was conflicting information available on the internet, and the PC for simulation a lighting desk software at home where a single screen was very inconvenient in setting up lighting cues in advance.
The unit required driver software to be downloaded on the machine, before connecting the D6000 unit. The driver software is free to download from display link and cover multiple operating systems.
Both the Mac and PC were covered. And the requirements for multiple screens met.
I found that for my set up I could have 2 4K external monitors active and a full hd monitor active in addition to the internal screen of the computer. Which was slightly more than my initial requirements. The PC is quite old but now has a new lease of life as it can meet my initial requirements and some future ideas that were just hope before I got the unit.
From
The manufacturer’s information the multiple screen requirements I had would require a much more powerful MacBook which if I could source one Luke be twice the price of my new unit, the PC was initially only capable of one external screen, but can now handle three eternal screens.
It my brother possible to add more, but I ran out of monitors to test that configuration.
It met my original needs and allowed additional expansion with extra USB port connections and monitors.
The additional screens are handled by the operating systems with out major issues.
I did experience two minor problems, which I am working on understanding their cause. The first one was that Caine times the external monitors were not initially picked up by the computer’s operating system, which could indicate that a power in sequence of the external units needs to be followed for a consistent response. Initially disconnecting the D6000 from the computer and reconnecting it caused the drivers to rescan the available hardware, which brought the missing units under the operating system’s control.
The operating systems can be set to mirror the various displays or use them in extended mode where each screen can display different information/ applications.
The order in which the displays are accessed can be changed from within the operating system of the computer. I found that the issue I experienced was one of trying to find out which screen the cursor was active in. As it could travel across all screens.
My requirements were rather specific but were easily met with the D6000 and the display link drivers. Rather than having to switch between application on a single screen for stay one application containing instructions to carry out and another application the actual result of carrying out the th instruction, I could have both running on different screens which made the task much easier to perform.
I am not using the unit for gaming purposes, which would impose a greater load in the graphics capabilities of the computer, with a possible issue in bandwidth but for having different information available quickly and easily which the d6000 allows. I gave run different video outputs to different screens simultaneously, which I had wanted to do but did not have the capability of doing until I started to use this unit.
Not only has it expanded the ability to do what I wanted on one machine it can be used in different operating systems just by connecting a single usb connector to that particular computer. As a hub It can also be used to daisy chain other peripherals
From itself and allow them to be available to whichever computer the d6000 is connected to.

Western Digital AV 2TB disk upgrade
I wanted to upgrade my topup TV set top box with a larger capacity drive.
I had previously carried out such an upgrade but I had used a 'normal' disk and the splayback suffered from judders, and accessing the menus seemed slow.
This disk was described as suitable for PVR use so I decided to compare it with the previous disk.
It fitted into the unit very simply and, to date, the juddering effects that I had experienced before have been eliminated, and the navigation around the menus seems faster. The disk does take some time (about a minute) to become ready when the unit is first switched on but after that initial delay it reacts normally.
The set top box also 'feels' much more responsive than previously.
It also seems much quieter than the previous hard drive.
Overall a successful upgrade and well worth noting that AV optimised disks do provide worthwhile benefits to PVRs.
