The Lost Journals of Benjamin Tooth by Crook, Mackenzie Book The Fast Free
Jan 31, 2019
No Matter Your Age You Will Love Reading These!
After watching The Detectorists series on TV, I became curious about its creator Mackenzie Crook, and found he had written a couple of children's books. I looked for them on line and found them here. The books may have been written for children, but are not just for children! The first book had me chuckling all the way through. Well before the end, in fact after the first several pages, I was completely hooked. The first book takes you way back in time, while the second in the series takes place in the present time, and provides a reminder of how important it is to treat all beings with care and respect. The artwork is also by Crook and it is just perfect! I left these in our guest room for our grandkids, age 9 & 12. I am sure they will love to read them when they visit us. Don't just think about it. Buy These!
How to Speak Dog: Mastering the Art of Dog-Human Communication
Jan 25, 2017
I have not quite finished the book yet, but I would say it is one you will read at least once and then keep and use as a reference.
The book opens with the evolution of language and how it is used by different mammals. It discusses why most mammals have limitations when it comes to speech, and how they have other forms of communication, some of which humans have too, but that we use to a lesser degree.
I wish there was an audio to go with some of the varied sounds he describes his dogs making. That is a part I will definitely have to go back and review.
It is not a book that will instantly allow you to have a conversation with your dog, but more of a book you have to read and keep thinking about as you observe dogs. When a dog makes certain movements or sounds, you will be more aware and focus on them, recollecting what you have read. Even if you think you already understand what all of the the sounds and expressions your dogs make mean, the author explains how these methods of communication evolved and why they mean what they do to other dogs and to us their caregivers.
If you have dogs or work with them, this is definitely a book you will want to keep in your library!
