The Amber Book by Dahlstrom and Brost HC

Excellent book on amber, but leaves me wanting more.

Great book on Amber. I ordered this one and three others at the same time. This one is the best overall. Well bound. Well translated into English. Great color photos. After reading 4 books on it I am amazed how much is NOT known by science. For instance how does white amber have 1M bubbles per cubic mm. That's froth. How did it get that way and still form a solid lump? Also, I am still looking for a book or website that shows what raw specimens look like from the various sites around the world. Baltic amber has a distinctive "look", and the pieces I've gotten from Poland and surrounding countries confirm that "look". However, I have purchased other samples and they say they are from "x" country, but how do I know. I got some "Baltic" third-hand, that clearly does NOT look Baltic. So if you know where I can go to see authentic photos of authentic pieces, please let me know.

The Impressionists

This is an excellent DVD about the beginning of the Impressionist painting movement. Even a non student can appreciate the fine acting, interesting storyline and absolutely gorgeous cinamatography. Produced by A&E, it is high quality. Anyone who loves Monet, Renior, Dega, Manet, Cezanne and the rest will have a great time. The only flaw was that it did not cover all 8 of the of the original painters. It included Bazille, but ignored Sisley and Moriset. And even though not originally in the group, I would have liked some on Van Gogh. Overal A+++.

Bobby Jones on Golf: The Classic Instructional by Golf's Greatest Legend

Vary verbose and dated. Sorry Bobby.

I wanted to love what Bobby Jones had to say, but he is very wordy and not very interesting. His prose style is very verbose and reflects the era he lived in. Hard to handle in this Tweet-generation. God bless him. A great gentleman and golfer, but I just couldn't read it.
