Reliving a childhood
2 of 2 found this helpful I had no Idea CW McCall had done so many songs. I guess you could call his style a country with a bit of what is now known as rap. Or just story telling set to music.
This brings back the good old times when I was but a child and the worries were few. I remember watching the old Kern's bread commercials and listening to CW croon about how good it was. I remember there were four commercials based off of the song "Old Home Filler Up and Keep on a trucking Cafe". Each one adding to the soap opera like story line.
The one thing I remember most is the song "Convoy". CB's literally jumped off he shelves after this song came out. This song had a great effect on history and the trucking industry. Everyone wanted to be a trucker.
If you wan to listen to some real good Americana...this is it. Remember Burt Reynolds and "Smokey and the Bandit": well it all stared right here. The songs about blowing through speed traps and thumbing your nose at the law.
The last two songs will stop and make you think. "Roses for Mama" should be played ever Mother's Day. If you don't shed at least one tear listening to it you are just inhuman. The last song "Aurora Borealis" will send a chill down your spine if you close your eyes and let the word form pictures in your mind.
Overall I liked this album, more for the trip down memory lane than anything.

Babylon 5 Season One
This has to be the best sci-fi for TV ever. The CGI special effects are by far the best. It is hard to believe they were done on a desk top computer with Video Toaster. This set the mark for sci-fi CGI.

American Spirit
I have been a Mannheim Steam Roller fan since 1984. But I must say I am disappointed by this one.
I should say I am disappointed most by the first song: Star Spangled Banner" The lead in to the song is the only thing I liked about the first song. In the first 30 seconds there is a fan fare with Brass instruments like that out of the first Superman movie. Then a synthesizer kicks in and ruins the hole thing.
Sort of like being surrounded by hostile natives and hearing the bugle blow: "charge" and all that shows up is a girl scout troop.
If you are a C.W. McCall fan you will have four songs to listen to. His famous song: "Convoy" launched CB radios off of store shelves like cannon shells out of cannons and made trucker the hero's of America. "Wolf Creak Pass" is a comical song that also helped the trucking industry; buy presenting us with a war story of sorts. "American Spirit" is something that had to be listen to on July 4. If you want to know why we shoot off fire crackers on the fourth...this song will answer that with spades. The last CW McCall song "Tin Types" will leave you in stunned silence as he recited Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.
The rest of the album is pure Mannheim Steamroller at their best. A good album to listen to during the Fourth of July or Veterans' Day.
