    Deadly Strangers
Written by the writer who also wrote many episodes of "The Avengers", this movie provides a very good twist at the ending that was very surprising. The movie is no great shakes, but if one just wants to sit back and enjoy a good thriller, this movie provides it.

    A Movie Classic!
The movie really deserves five stars! It is well filmed, well acted, and Hitchcock sustains the tension of the plot until the very last frame. The transfer to Blu-ray is excellent and the image just couldn't get any better. I also enjoyed the special features such as "The Making of..." and "The Gothic World of Daphne du Maurier". Why am I only giving it four stars then? The deduction is due the commentary by film critic Richard Schickel. It is a major disappointment. He provides very little background information on the making of the film and most of his commentary consists of a reiteration of what is happening to the plot as we are watching the film. I could comprehend the movie just fine without him having to repeat it for me. This only points to the fact that he has not done any homework on this film and is just speaking at random. He also gives the impression that he doesn't really care for the movie too much and outright voices his dislike of Laurence Olivier. I cannot understand the logic of having someone do the commentary on a film that he does not have an affinity for. Mr. Schickel also commits a gross error! Towards the end of the movie he was comparing the novel to the movie on a major plot twist relating to Rebecca's death and actually gave false information. This man has not even read the book! If he can't get it right, he should refrain from such comparisons. In trying to show that he is literate, he is actually exposing his ignorance. What's worse is that all the viewers who have not read the novel will end up believing in this falsehood. Listening to his commentary actually tarnishes the movie. If you want a real commentator, get the Criterion version of "Rebecca" and listen to the commentary by Leonard Leff. That is how a commentary should be done!

    Wonderful DVD
Mysterious Island is an old classic movie that I've seen as a kid and wanted to enjoy again due to nostalgic reason. I am still thoroughly impressed with the movie. There are special features that goes into all the work done into bringing this film to life and one could enjoy it even more after that. The audio commentary was very interesting also. Though rather one dimensional characters, the cast were still very likeable. I think the standout being Herbert Lom and Michael Craig.
