Pretty good story, but not very well written and not nearly as scary as what I had been led to believe.
I was a little disappointed. I've been told by a number of writers that MacDonald's books are outstanding; Dean Koontz himself wrote a review indicating that Cape Fear is one of the scariest books he's ever read. Personally, I find Koontz's books much scarier and much better written. (In fact, I found this book by John D. MacDonald particularly disappointing because I do not consider it to have been very well written.
