Yin Yu Tang: The Architecture and Daily Life of a Chinese House by Nancy Berlin

This home was much more than a house and the history of the family can't be sepatated from it.

I purchased this book for a very small amount of money. It was in very good condition. I have been watching Chinese film (mostly period films) and the construction of Chinese homes is very interesting and how they were handed down in the families spoke to the preservation of them. Palace construction and large buildings from ancient times is particularly fascinating in how they survive earthquakes. I digress however, as the history of this house and how it survived so well over centuries is testament to the cleverness of that type of construction. Its a fascinating look at one family and the home it was for centuries.

Very nice collection of garderns. Well worth the money paid.

Beautifully illustrated, great historical narratives. For a rather small book of its kind, it is my favorite book on Chinese garden philosophy and anthology. It will be my guide to constructing my own Chinese garden on my acre of ground. I have only time to construct some small Chinese style architecture but my intention is to replicate at least on roof using authentic construction technique to blend in to the garden. Great book. I can't put it down. Also, I purchased this book used and it was in like new condition.
