Classic, authoritative, pictorial guide

excellent, highly visual (multiple photos per recipe/technique), classic and complete run down of mother sauces, basic methods etc and culminating with more advanced recipes. Simple, easy to follow and definitive.

Superb book, even for beginners who want to make amazing bread!

I'm hardly a pro but this book is super easy to use. Yes, it involves having a dutch oven for best results (although I actually use a lidded, ovenproof stoneware crock that works wonderfully), and you may need to buy a scale and a thermometer, but honestly 1: those are things you should have in your kitchen anyways and 2: the cost of a bag of flour vs the cost of a decent loaf of bread offsets those purchases easily. I have only been making his more straightforward recipes so far (Saturday morning bread and overnight white) and I am really, really pleased. As a beginner bread maker, these recipes have totally changed the game for me. Also, he has some really handy, quick Youtube videos that show you how to do some of the methods explained in the book. Love this book. Look forward to trying the more complicated methods, like preferments, but for now I'm pretty happy with the results I've gotten:

really well constructed and thought out

i like the fuzzy interior and it seems to be good basic protection for my lenses. allows me to throw them into a non "camera" bag and feel ok about carrying them around.
