Arrived today. It came in 4 different packagings. Engine was in a USPS padded flat rate envelope in a small box which was in another padded flat rate envelope inside a larger box with padding paper surrounding that. I don’t think an elephant could have crushed the Amtrak Engine inside! Product exactly as described. Good price. P

Z Scale Z Gauge Marklin Mini-Club 8871 ICE RailcarTrain Set ECOB
Apr 19, 2016
2 Motors = Twice the power
This set, the 8771, is the first ICE set that Marklin made. For this set they put motors in both the lead and trail cars. As such, it has plenty of power to pull the set and can easily accept more add-on cars. The coupler/draw bars, which also conduct power through the train, are readily available in the aftermarket, which is a good thing.

Merten 2343 Construction Worker Figures Z Scale
Dec 11, 2015
Merten, Master of Miniatures
Beautiful figures, carefully painted by German craftsmen and women. Merten excelled at the smallest of figures, producing a variety of dogs in 1/220 scale! Sadly, their magic is lost, and Merten has apparently been assimilated by another miniature model maker. They are missed.
Z Scale Micro Trains MTL 981 01 112 Penn Central GP35 Locomotive Road #2310 NIB

Thank You Mr. Ting
You may not have heard of Mr. Wai Shing Ting, but perhaps you may be familiar with products he designed and that were manufactured by his company - Sanda Kan. Sanda Kan built model train locomotives for brand names like Atlas, Bachmann, Lionel, Aristo-Craft, Micro-Ace, S-Helper, Hornby, Brawa, Marklin, Tomix...and Micro-Trains Line (MTL) GP35/GP9's. Mr. Ting retired in 2010; Sanda Kan had been purchased in 2009, and had issued halt letters at that time advising it would stop building products for many small firms, including MTL. And that is why the Micro-Trains GP35/GP9 locomotives mark a Pinnacle of Excellence in Z-Scale engineering and manufacturing quality that is unlikely to be surpassed. Every MTL GP35/GP9 locomotive runs right out of the box, unafficted by "loose" electrical parts. The injection molded shells are highly detailed, the paint and pad printing is flawless. Add-on details such as metal railings and air horns mark these locomotives as top-flight models of their prototypes. Under the hood "quality" is the guide word. The maintenance-free can motor is a precision Swiss-made Maxon motor, whose replacement retail price can easily surpass half the cost of the total locomotive. But it is unlikely that you will ever need to source a replacement Maxon motor; they will run with you through the decades. To accompany this bullet-proof motor is an all-metal drive train of brass and metal parts - no plastic gears or drive-train parts to age, break and make the locomotive an irreparable "display queen". The chassis is a diamond-hard zinc alloy which will not crumble or break in your hands from normal handling. The wheels are prototypically all-metal, no helper crutches of rubber traction bands fitted to disintegrate and leave the user with a grooved wheel and nothing to fit in it. And so the MTL GP35/GP9 locomotives represent the best the genius of Mr. Ting could design and produce. For the user the MTL GP35/GP9 is a thing of joy and a beauty forever. These two locos, along with the older generation MTL F7, are the only modern American road engines that offer the Marklin coupler option - easily switched from their MTL Magne-Matic knuckle couplers to Marklin Z-Style couplers in less than 5 minutes by removing 4 screws. The can motor is maintenance-free, brushless, requiring no periodic brush replacement and no cleaning of brush dust-ever. The wheels and gears in the trucks are easily cleaned and lubed by simply removing the aforementioned four screws to remove the truck frame to access the wheels and axles. If the user requires DCC operation, several after-market DCC producers make drop-in circuit boards for the MTL GP35/GP9 locomotives. The directional lighting are LED's, lasting forever. Operationally the GP35/GP9 runs smoothly and silently at prototypical speeds. Sorry, it will not win any Z-Scale drag races. The fully functioning Best-In-Class Micro-Trains Line Magne-Matic couplers allow remote coupling/uncoupling for prototypical switching operations. The engineering genius of Mr. Ting is once-more evident in the GP35/GP9's abilities to negotiate tight radius (145mm) curves while pulling a consist of freight cars and not derailing either the engine or the cars. And so I deem the MTL GP35/GP9 to be Best In Class in Z-Scale for modern American road locomotives. Unfortunately, production ceased seven years ago; an entire lifetime for lesser quality Z locomotives. But these beauties are just getting started.
