A warm white LED bulb
It is much smaller than I expected. It is large ES and about the size of an old-fashioned light bulb. I bought it to replace another LED bulb (not Philips) that had started to flash like a strobe light after 2 years and it was about the size of halogen Par38. This one screws into my outside light fitting very snugly and looks very much neater and is also lighter (weighs less).
It is bright enough to do what I want - provide illumination for a patio - but the light is more like a traditional incandescent spotlight rather than a cold white LED. If / when I buy another I'll probably go for an 11watt to throw some light a bit further across the patio. According to the packaging that'll be in 30 years time. I'd imagine this 7w would work very well indoors where a floor/wall/ceiling would 'trap' the light effectively. Stays cool in use.

Help in the night
I have 3 other PIR battery operated lights in use around the home (landing, hall, cupboard - different style to this one) and like them. This was bought to assist my elderly parent who sometimes needs to get up in the night and doesn't want to find / switch on the electric light. The convenience of the motion detector means the light comes on as he gets to his bedroom door and illuminates the landing very well. It is fixed to the underside of the landing rail, and is 'out of the way'.
The PIR may be a little over sensitive as the lights come on as motion is detected in daylight; and the adhesive on the back of the strip could be stronger (and yes I did clean the surface before fixing the strip in place). But I recommend this unit, and more importantly so does my parent.
It has been in use for almost 3 weeks.
(Without my 2 cautious comments it would be 5 stars).

Bright Light Does The Job
It does what it is supposed to do - it detects movement of people at a wide angle, the lights come on and illuminate the area, and then they go off again after about 15 seconds (I have not used a stop watch so don't hold me to this; but of course if you carry on moving in its catchment range then the lights stay on).
We use it on an upstairs landing about 6 feet x 10 feet. Works in dusky light as well as when it is dark. I have been using it for 6 weeks and no visible reduction in brightness using cheap (Wilkinsons) alkaline batteries.
***UPDATE*** We have ben using this for over a year now. Changed the batteries once a few weeks ago and it continues to do what I wrote above.
