The picture is a little off, as he smallest is also a smaller diameter that will easily fit into a test tube.
Years ago when I was using them in a science lab, there was basically one size good for a beaker that was it.
When heating chemicals these are great, even if it just a cup of coffee on a hot plate.

cross led spinning led clock persistance view
This Kit has Red LED's on one side and Blue on the other. Compaired to the 56 LED kit it is much easier. The 56 led kit had problems with the IR detector, and this does not. The quickest way to test is with using a multimeter in the diode range and if you have the connections of the meter proper for the detector, the current will go up really fast from having it look at a regular light bulb. The LED's are easily checked for polarity with the multimeter, and the IR device can be checked for output by using your Cell Phone camera, as it can see the IR that our eyes can't.
