A fantastic book about bialys, and so much more!
This is not just a wonderful history of the bialy. It provides an enlightening view into everyday Jewish life and culture in and around Bialystok, and throughout Poland overall, in the years leading up to the Holocaust. It also illustrates very well as how the bialy became one of many threads of the diaspora that have stretched around the globe, giving both nourishment and comfort as a tradition with a direct connection to the old world.
