The Lubitsch Touch
This is the exemplary sophisticated comedy which Ernst Lubitsch specialized in, and which has become a touchstone for the very definition of sophisticated comedy--Two scam artists, jewel thieves, male and female, fall in love while trying to scam each other--Nobody ever came close to Lubitsch for this stylish, elegant and surprising type of comedy--And it looks like nobody ever will.

Carnival of Souls, What's going on here?
A low-budget "cult" film--This is less about action or even character than it is about atmosphere, and that it has in spades! Very atmospheric, mysterious and gripping in a strange way.

Metanarrative Comedy
Galaxy Quest is a clever, engaging parody of Star Trek on one hand but also plays around with the different levels of narrative reality which provide some of the self-referential humor of this comedy--The actors (mostly A-list) seem to be having a great time doing this--This may have gone directly to DVD but it has subsequently built up a "cult" audience following.
