One high buff setting, GLUE pads and NOT VELCRO.

Go for the variable speed.
After having purchased this and evaluating is speed and utility against the variable speed orbital sander, it is night and day the use and practicality.
I didn't think I'd be paying 70 bucks just to get a single HIGH speed sander. I promptly returned this one for the multiple speed setting model dwe6423k.
This model here does not come with variety of speeds, it is one set high speed. Not good for light buffing projects, even if you're watching your pressure.
In addition most all sanders today have velcro pads and when I went to lowes looking at this model what do you know they only have GLUE pads, which means every time I want to change a pad I have to remove and reapply glue.
An unnecessary mess. The random speed orbital sander by dewalt with variable speed settings 1-5 is available on here for 73$ through westsideliquidators. The device is a dream and the velcro sanding pads, well, that's just what they should be, velcro.
Save your money and spend a little more to get a proper sander
