Expected a bit better
With all the outstanding reviews on the web for this lens, I expected it to be great. The lens is good, not great, but good. Its range is limited, but I was aware of that when I purchased it. Unfortunately, the image is a bit soft at f/2.8 across all focal lengths. This is a wide-angle. It's not easy to get a soft image with a well-designed, very wide-angle lens since focusing is not so critical. I tried multiple focus settings, using both AF and manual, and all resulted in a soft image. Once I got down to f8, it became quite sharp at all focal lengths. With Nikon's somewhat equivalent 12-24 f2.8 going for a bit over $1,000, well, this lens is not so bad under that light. I'm keeping it.
