See the (really long) build thread at EEVBLOG to improve the accuracy
4 of 4 found this helpful As shipped it has 1.12K firmware; 1.13K is available, but the shipped firmware works. Contrary to the other review, you don't need detailed build instructions, as the component values are marked on the silkscreen, and the're correct. You can build just by following the silkscreen, but watch out for the polarity of the 6 pin SMD device - pin 1 is the pad with no trace.
I threw in some photos so you could see it in use. I used the precision voltage regulator and 4 precision resistors mentioned in the thread describing these testers. Google: $20 transistor tester eevblog and you'll find a 190+ page thread, with more details than you could need. The tester and software was designed by a group in Germany, and the precision parts help the accuracy.
It won't work on all parts. Some power transistors may be unrecognized, and it cheap ceramic caps may give odd readings, but overall it's well worth the money. Even without the added accurate parts it compares favorably with instruments costing over 10 times as much. I liked it so much that I've just bought a second kit.

Scammed - these aren't Pomona SOIC clips
The first three photos in the ad are Pomona clips. I'd mistakenly thought the other photos were simply poor quality photos. Nope! The dingy blue (not Pomona blue) are cheap knockoff parts, and THOSE were what was sent. The molds for the knockoffs look like it was done with Silly Putty. There is loose flashing on the parts, and they're obviously pitiful quality, and not Pomona. Additionally, the good folks at Pomona know how to spell 'Model'. I guess that doesn't translate well to Mandarin.
The first pic below contrasts two genuine Pomona clips to what was sent, the second is a close-up of Pomona quality, and the last two pics contrast Pomona to the cheap knockoff clips sent.
If it was worth the shipping cost I'd return these. Don't waste your money on cheap knockoffs.
