With the right (read: older Linux drivers only), these work well
These perform as advertised with the following caveats:
1- The run *hot*. Be sure you have good airflow.
2- They require drivers from the manufacturer, presently HGST/Western Digital. Drivers are only available for some versions of Linux. At the time of this writing (9/2021): CentOS 6-7, Debian 8, RHEL 6-7, Ubuntu 14.04.
If you cannot find drivers, such as for the latest Debian and Ubuntu, these show up as an unrecognized PCIe device, at best.
