A Great Piece For Your Collection
I’ve been looking to collect all the older Bionicle sets now that I’m older and have my own money, and I have Takanuva was a must have for me. Ever since I saw him in the Mask of Light movie, I wanted that set. Now that I have it, it definitely holds up to what I wanted.
Obviously the set doesn’t have the same level of articulation as the later sets, but part of the joy of these old sets was the imagination factor. As for play, the gear function works just fine, but his mask is based more on what later versions would use, so you can’t play the game where you knock off masks. Conversely, this just ensures that the mask itself won’t fall off as easily so you can play with the toy with no worries of his face falling off.
The ball joints have a tendency to squeak from age, but they date back to a time when bionicles didn’t break (I’m talking about you lime green joints). So odds are you’re very unlikely to have broken joints unless Takanuva was really sent through the wringer. Of course, he consists mostly of white pieces so fading/yellowing is a real concern. However, I personally am not as concerned about it as others are, but if you want a pristine collection just keep your eyes out and considering buying brand new.
All in all, Takanuva is a solid buy and a must have for anyone collecting Bionicle sets.
