infinium hacking

I have been an amp tech for decades. So I bought this amp knowing it wasnt working. I found a number of problems with it. First off the power transformer wasnt working at all. I took it apart to find a blown internal fusible link, once i removed it the amp came alive! unfortunately a bit too much as the infinium bias system wasnt working and running full out! yikes. I had no access to a schematic and am not great with micro circuitry so as a result i was a bit put off. It needed to be biased and the broken infinium system wouldnt do it. So armed with a Vox ac10 schematic i imposed a cathode bias derived from the vox circuit. This was very easy just inserting a 150ohm 3w resistor between the cathode and ground. Voila! She now runs quite cool and sounds beautiful! i had been ready to rebuild her into a different amp but the idea paid off nicely. I was also able to fix the power supply to the pilot lite which had been fed by the broken infinum circuit,so now she has a working pilot lamp. love these amps but i think the infinium idea is flawed and would recommend an older pre-infinum model for anyone interested in one of these amps. Just my personal opinion...
