Remade, less than the original, but watch it for the songs and Aish.
I love the music from this movie, surprisingly good, especially since its by Anu Malik. The specific 'Agle janam mohe bitiya na kijo' song is a gem - both versions (Richa Sharma and Anmol Mallik) are superb.
The movie is little less impressive than the 1981 Rekha version, no fault of the actors. Aishwarya is superb, so are most of the others. However, direction, editing and especially the choreography are sub-par. The cinematography is not bad, but the art direction probably required showing everything shiny and new, which kind of detracts from the plausibility. The overall result is that this powerful story by Mohd. Hadi Ruswa is somewhat diluted.
I wish the same cast could be brought together to redo the movie - perhaps with a Shekhar Kapur as director.
Love the story - sad, yes, but oh so touching.
