Value of tire characteristics
These tires are notoriously reviewed as being comfortable but lacking durability. Just a couple thoughts after having used multiple sets of the Vittoria Corsa Cx's, Continental Grand Prix's, Schwalbe One's, etc. Puncture resistance is highly circumstantial in my observation - riding through debris always subjects you to the chance of puncture no matter how 'durable' the tire is. Also, people vary on the importance they place on ride comfort, and tire longevity. Cotton cased tires definitely offer a noticeable improvement in ride quality - less vibration, chatter etc. However, the cotton is more subject to abrasion, and typically they might wear out a tad sooner than one that emphasizes durability. In my opinion, how and where you ride has a much bigger impact on tire life than which tire you ride on. I have had one Vittoria open corsa cx sidewall tear on me only 200 miles in, and 3 sets last just as long as Continental 4000's. If you place value on performance and ride comfort like me, than its worth sacrificing some longevity in return.
