$50 part avoided $500 Lexus repair
I got tired of paying Lexus $500+ every time one of my locks quit working. When I found a new lock at an auto part store for $250, I started to understand why Lexus charges so much. I found this lock for $50 and decided I didn't have much to lose by trying to install it myself. It arrived in 2 days and took me about an hour to install - and worked perfectly.
It is my understanding that what tends to break in these locking systems is a small plastic actuator housed within the larger locking mechanism, and that these small actuators cost around $5. The problem is that you have to take apart the entire housing in order to install the actuator. I don't have the tools or patience to attempt this, so paying $50 for a rebuilt one seemed a very good option.
