Rattle and more rattle
First, Person I purchased bumper from did an outstanding job delivering it to me. Had it in 3 days from date of purchase.
The bumper is well constructed for durability. Powder coat is so so as I had to prime and paint a few places before installing because of rubbing or just missed areas of metal showing. Installation isnt to bad besides the instructions arent that well written and pictures are somewhat hard to see. Been really hard if you decide not to use the third brake light setup that comes "free" with bumper.
I have been fighting a constant rattling from the device that connects the tire arm to the door. I've added nylon washer and spacers, tightened and loosened the connection. Added more rubber to the bump stop and tighten to remove all play and still it rattles so bad. Used thread tape to make sure device doesnt loosen up. Still a rattling. It's not bad if you like your radio turned way up so you cant talk to the passenger next to you. Maybe I can find nylon bolts to see if those would help. Just afraid they may snap while either closing the gate or hitting a large bump in the road. Widening the holes and adding garments is going to be my final attempt to quiet the rattle. If that doesnt work, guess I will be buying a Smith Built bumper and tire carrier. Maybe should have done that anyways to begin with. I wouldn't recommend this bumper unless you can't hear or you are a good bush fix kind of person. Good idea but bad design. It's to bad because it looks great, swings with the gate, and is made out of nice, thick metal.
