Not as good as Kadees but it will work
I bought these on the recommendation of a train repair tech; specifically for an AHM/Rivarossi E-8 locomotive that was missing couplers. The McHenry coupler will fit over the square 'pin' in the gearbox but it's a very tight fit. I took my Dremel tool and shaved down the inside of the circular part that attaches to the pin and it worked much better. The little plastic 'springs' on the sides are not very robust and bend easily. The gearboxes that I was dealing with didn't have covers and the McHenrys do stay in place better than Kadees.

Great units but notice one thing . . .
All three of these are just great, beautiful units !
One thing that I learned though is that Athearn made two different versions of the PA units: the difference being one version has silver/metal truck frames and the other has black/plastic truck frames. If you are wanting to pair these with Athearn B&O streamlined passenger cars, you'll want to get units with silver frames; with 'heavyweight' and 'smooth-side' passenger cars, you'll want units with black trucks.
