S-Helper 00061 S Gauge Santa Fe Stock Car #23062 LN

S-Helper cars are far better than AF rolling stock.

I’m new to S-gauge, but not model railroading - I have an extensive O-garage collection and layout. When I recently started buying some s-gauge equipment and track I decided to try both Lionel / American Flyer (AF) and competing brands. In my view S-Helper / MTH / Scale Trains rolling stock is far superior to AF. This SHS car easily accommodates Kaydee couplers to replace the oversized knuckle couplers. The wheels sets are attached with screws for easy removal and reattachment. The AF wheel sets are attached with a cheap rivet alternative that is virtually impossible to remove with destroying the car. There are no pre-drilled holes or pads for the Kaydee’s on the AF cars, so I’m not even attempting to modify them - very disappointing. Bottom line - I much prefer SHS cars over AF and this will determine my future purchases.

Classic Atlas O quality

Typical of the quality and details of an Atlas O freight car, and the wood sided refrigerator series. This is a special design that lacks the colorful images on the billboard series of refers. But it is prototypical of the ‘ice service’ refrigerator cars that carried ice to the locations that serviced in transit refers. Ice harvested from remote locations needed transportation to the icing platforms, and these were typical of that class of service. Great addition to make your icing platform more authentic.
