Compares well with condenser handheld
If you are a low voice or torch singer and prefer the sound of a condenser mic ( Neumann 105 ) but need a dynamic setup, this may be as close as you can get. Great warm response with a lot of presence. Proximity effect should be used to your advantage, not avoided. Best dynamic mic I've found for singing standards and ballads. If you are a screamer it probably won't matter what you use… non beta 58, etc.

LD Systems MAUI 5 review
I own and use three MAUI Systems,... bought a MAUI 11 at the Los Angeles area NAMM show when it was first presented and have used it for hundreds of gigs over hundreds of miles without a problem. ( actually dropped both 11 and 28 on concrete with only scuff marks to show) I am a lounge and wedding singer in the San Diego/ Baja area, using a Tyros 5 to accompany myself. I sing standards with a Neumann condenser mic and need to hear every nuance clearly and still project through a room of fifty and more talking guests. Later, added a MAUI 28 Mix for more power and versatility, outdoor and stage events. Recently I purchased the MAUI 5, a real treat after carrying the other two around.
HERE IS THE SCOOP ON THE NEW MAUI 5 ; light weight (~ half the 11) with a larger woofer (8") More compact with a two or three piece column. (adapts to siting or standing when doubling as a monitor) The sound is amazing, noise free, with richer bass and enough power to do the same small gigs as before. The price is unbeatable but don't forget to purchase the bags, (they should be included instead of an option)
LD Systems does a great job of building this product, providing exceptional head room, feedback control and protective circuitry, all this with with zero noise and multi amping for a balanced sound at any volume. Wish they would have included phantom power but I would probably still use a small mixer. I put this system three feet and slightly in front of my ear, depending on the volume, eliminating the need for a separate monitor. I get nothing but compliments and my audiences love to be able talk with each other while still hearing the music. Good luck finding these on the west coast, marketing needs to catch up and do justice to this great product.
