Good portable light for Singer 221 Featherweight
It's great for use with the Singer 221 (Featherweight). The magnetic base attaches strongly to the metal faceplate. It's not good for other machines, though.

use for cross-wound thread spools w/ vintage sewing machines
My vintage sewing machines (Singer and Bernina) don't like cross-wound thread (e.g. Aurifil). I was constantly dealing with tension issues. This thread stand is the perfect solution. The silver tube slips right over the thread spool on the machine. I put the thread spool on the table behind the machine, feed the thread through the loop on the top, thread the machine as usual. No more tension issues! You can't beat the price of this. Why spend $25.00 on a thread stand for a Singer 221/301 when this is just as good (if not better) for less than $5.00? I've given several as gifts to friends who use Featherweights (Singer 221). They love the thread stands as much as I do.
